- Our atomic clocks are the most accurate timekeeping system ever flown. More than 60 Harris-developed atomic clocks are flying on 20 GPS satellites.
L3Harris has been focused on the “high frontier” since the beginning of the Space Age. We help protect U.S. space assets and access to space by developing, modernizing and sustaining the ground-based radars and optical systems that find, fix and track objects in space. We ensure the delivery of critical information from those systems for effective battle management, command and control. Looking further into space, L3Harris’ optical systems, as part of the world’s most advanced telescopes and observatories, and related services enable scientists to gain a clearer picture and better understanding of the universe.
Harris is increasing the life of missile warning, missile defense, and space situational awareness assets through advanced sustainment engineering for the U.S. Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command SENSOR program.
- We provide sustainment engineering, mission engineering, mission analysis, and logistics support for seven unique systems in 12 locations worldwide.
- We are providing large-scale modernization efforts that keep legacy sensors “in the fight.”
- We provide award-winning logistics and depot support for life-cycle cost reductions.
- We have completed more than 1,200 projects that increase the life of this system of missile warning, missile defense, and space situational awareness sensors through advanced sustainment engineering.
Harris specializes in large precision optics and integration and testing services for deep-space observation programs. We have a 100-percent success rate for hundreds of programs, including the Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET), and Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).
- Today, we are working on the James Webb Space Telescope (Webb), Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST), and Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) programs.
- Harris is advancing mankind’s understanding of the universe and origins of life by providing critical components for NASA’s ultra-powerful James Webb Space Telescope, which is scheduled to launch in 2019 and has a primary mirror that is 2.5x larger and 1,000x more sensitive than the Hubble Space Telescope.
- We are developing the near infrared spectrometer, which will measure the velocity of moving objects in deep space, their composition, and the rate of star formations.
- We are providing the complex integration and cryogenic testing of the primary optimal element.
- For LSST, Harris has developed our largest telescope optic to date. Our 3.5 meter secondary mirror and mirror cell assembly will help scientists explore the structure and evolution of the universe and the objects in it through one of this century’s most exciting astronomy projects*.
